The Steelband Sonic Steel's repertoire outlines a broad perspective from traditional steelband compositions from the Caribbean world, through soft boss novas to hot jazz arrangements and other delicacies. This is why Sonic Steel is very suitable for many different types of events from Caribbean parties to more subdued receptions as well as an unusual, but interesting feature in any event. Rooted in the Caribbean steelband tradition Sonic Steel provides sparkling and joyful music that really shows what a top tuned steelband is capable of. Since its formation in 2001, Sonic Steel has achieved to raise the standards within the Danish steelpan environment, and has drawn international attention with the release of the well-reviewed album, ”Pieces of Pan”. Steelpans were invented on the Caribbean island of Trinidad in the 1930’s and were given their present shape in the 60’s. It is the only family of acoustical instruments that has been invented in the 20th century. There are several types and registers of steelpans ranging from bass to soprano, and therefore it is possible to create an orchestra solely consisting of this instrument. Such an orchestra is called a steelband. The instrument was brought to Europe 30-40 years ago and has gained a great deal of popularity in many regions of the continent.
